Measurements on Hair & Scalp

For more than 30 years the Sebumeter^® has provided the worldwide most used method to reproducibly and accurately determine the sebum level of the skin surface, as well as on scalp and hair. This is documented by the numerous mentions in scientific literature in which the terms "sebumetry" and sebum measurements are inseparable.

The Visioscan^® VC 20plus is a unique UVA-light video camera with high resolution to study the skin surface directly. The SELS^® parameters (Surface Evaluation of the Living Skin) have been developed especially for this camera and are used in numerous studies. The images show impressively the structure of the skin and images of hair & scalp.  With its multi-functional software, the Visioscan^® VC 20plus is a very flexible system to characterize skin surface, hair and scalp condition easily, accurately and very economically. It had been used on board of the International Space Station ISS for several years.

The system developed to measure the lipid content in the tear film has an interesting use to measure sebum on the scalp between hair with a special adapter.

Porphyrins are produced by the Cutibacterium acnes that occurs in the natural bacterial flora of human skin (skin flora). Under certain UV illumination, the porphyrins can be recognized by their orange-red fluorescence. With a corresponding predisposition, they can lead to the development of acne. The Visiopor^® camera uses a specific UV-light with polarisation filters to visualize the fluorescence impressively.
