Osteoporosis risk assessment with the Ultrascan UC 22
New feature in the Ultrascan UC 22 software
The calcium supply to the bones (the bone density) is mainly controlled via the connective tissue. With advancing age, there are changes in the general metabolism that is particularly reflected in the loss of collagen in the skin, but also in bone density. It is a well-established fact that there is a connection between decreased bone density (osteoporosis) and skin thickness. Not only that, the reduction in skin thickness due to collagen loss clearly precedes loss in bone density and thus serves as a solid parameter for early detection of osteoporosis risk. The software of our ultrasound device Ultrascan UC 22 offers a new function: When entering the age of the subject and measuring the inside of the upper arm, an osteoporosis risk is displayed in a traffic light system.
If you already own an Ultrascan UC 22 system,
